Ans: 35.
Let n = (2^a)*(3^b)*Z ...where Z is a positive integer not divisible by 2 or 3. Note that a, b are non-negative integers.
If we denote number of positive divisors of n as d(n), then d(n) = d(2^a)*d(3^b)*d(Z).
Therefore, d(2*n) = d(2^(a+1))*d(3^b)*d(Z) = 28.
Similarly, d(3*n) = d(2^a)*d(3^(b+1))*d(Z) = 30.
Now, d(Z) is a factor of both 28 and 30...  more»
Now, d(Z) is a factor of both 28 and 30 => d(Z) = 1 or 2.
Assume, d(Z) = 2. This implies, (a+2)(b+1)2 = 28 and (a+1)(b+2)2 = 30. Subtracting and solving we get a=b+1, whence (b+2)*(b+2) = 15. Not possible as b is integer.
Next, if d(Z) = 1, this implies (a+2)(b+1) = 28 and (a+1)(b+2) = 30. Subtracting and solving we get a=b+2, whence a=5, b=3.
Now, 6n = (2^6)*(3^4). Thus, d(6n) = (6+1)*(4+1) = 35. «less

The integers x,y,z satisfy |x+2|+ |y+3| – |z-5|= 1, then how can i find the number of possible values of |x+y+z|?

0 0

Akshaya replied | 29/03/2016

Let X = x+2. Y = y+3. Z = z-5.

For each value of x, there is one value of X. Similarly for y, and z. So if see the number of possible values of X, Y, Z it is the same as number of possible values of x, y and z.

So problem becomes: |X| + |Y| - |Z| = 1. There are infinite many possibilities:
X=1, Y=1, Z=1
X =1, Y = 2, Z =2
X = 1, Y =3, Z=3

You study a chapter in any standard book, answer questions of the topic which have appeared in previous IIT exam. If you are successful in answering correctly without referring to solutions than you can feel confident to crack through self study else better take help , experiment will prove costly. You may contact me if you want for further doubt. It is free.
