Renu sundriyal There are many differences between Carnatic and Hindustani music, including their structure, style, and focus, but Carnatic music is not necessarily less famous than Hindustani music: Structure Carnatic music is more structured and formulaic, with a fixed pattern of melody and rhythm. Hindustani music is more improvisational, allowing for greater flexibility and creative expression. Focus Carnatic music is more focused on melody, while Hindustani music emphasizes rhythm. Sub-styles Carnatic has only one sub-style, while Hindustani has multiple types of sub-styles. Gharanas Carnatic has no gharanas, while Hindustani has many gharanas. Accompanists Accompanists have a much larger role in Carnatic concerts than in Hindustani concerts. Raga elaborations Carnatic raga elaborations are generally much faster in tempo and shorter than their equivalents in Hindustani music.
