Dear student, it depends on your aim, if you want to learn music for self satisfaction duration may be 6 months to 1 year but if you want to obtain a professional degree or PG, PHD etc,. duration is 9 -11 years. it cannot be predicted by anyone as there is no fixed duration for music learning like car driving learning , Hindustani music is a huge , almost infinite possibilty like an ocean so the level of betterment is always there and there are so many raags so many combination so many taals when we are saying Hindustani it means both north indian and south indian classical music so being a student of indian classical music i would honestly say even a lifetime is not enough for learning but being practical if someone has to really be a professional in this field he must devote minimum 10 years to learning in order to be a pro and it takes regular riaz under guidance of proper guru read less
