I have been teaching Bharatanatyam for the past seven years, guiding students through all levels of their learning journey—from foundational training to advanced repertoire. My teaching methodology integrates both the practical and theoretical aspects of the art form, ensuring a comprehensive and holistic approach. In addition to basic adavus and technique, I provide focused instruction on eye, neck, and head movements (drishti, griva, and shirash), as well as detailed training in hand gestures (mudras) and their meanings. Students also gain an understanding of the theoretical foundations, including the history, symbolism, and classical texts that inform Bharatanatyam. I have trained students for stage performances, helping them build confidence, expression, and stage presence. For more advanced learners, I have taught higher-level items such as varnams and padams, and other complex choreographies, with attention to both technical precision and emotional expression (abhinaya). My goal is to foster not just skilled performers but thoughtful and disciplined dancers who appreciate the depth and richness of Bharatanatyam.
