Amplifier goes by its name....it amplifies the signal coming from the source. The amplification can either enhance or distort the sound from the source,, depending upon what effect you want. The source can be anything like Electric Guitra, Acoustic Guitar ,etc.

Good quality amplifiers are very important for making great sound which people would to hear. Also that you shall know what effects do you want to have in your amp and what kind of the exact sound you are looking for as there is a vast variety of this stuff.
