How can I address problems with my guitar's input jack?

Guitar teacher having taught over 100 students last year

In case the jack is loose, you should unscrew it from the guitar body. After that, you will be able to find a hex bolt at the base of the jack, tigheten that bolt with wrench and the jack will be able to grip the cable stronger. Check before screwing it back into the guitar body.

The most common problem with electric guitar is when you connect the jack to the amp it starts creating humming sound, it is a typical case of discounted grounding wireing which is very small issue can be fixed by your local guitar tech, 

And there sometimes we have faulty leadwire which catches rust and get leakage in internal wireing inside the isolation coating, in that case it's time to change the lead wire
