The GRE score is an essential component of your profile. However, a good score does not guarantee you a spot in the selected program. A low score, on the other hand, can jeopardize your chances of getting in. Think of the GRE score as a factor that can harm your chances of getting in, but won't drastically improve them either. Since you're targeting the PhD program in a STEM subject, there will be significant competition. So it would be best to aim to score as close to a 170 in the Quants section while scoring above the average score of students who received admits from your choice University in the Verbal section (generally the score that corresponds to the 80th percentile and above is sufficient). Be sure to strengthen the rest of your profile with a high CGPA, compelling SOP, and LoRs from individuals who have seen you showcase the skills necessary for successfully pursuing a PhD in your choice of field, and performing relevant research. read less

1. so what is the minimum time required to prepare for the Graduate Record Examination . 2. Also what in your opinion is the right way - directly after B tech or get into job and then go after 1 year or 2 years ?
Answer to Q.2 It is better to continue MS immediately after your UG. Since you are going to specialize in the area of your interest a break is not advisable. In case you are going to pursue MBA, then experience becomes necessary.
