The UPSC exam has several stages. For the Prelims part, I teach CSAT (English part). For the mains, I teach English Essay and Ethics (GS paper IV). I have written books for Essay and Ethics. My teaching focuses in Essay on explaining what makes a good essay in Civil Services, the importance of thesis statement based on the topic and how to build arguments para by para, and finally the conclusion. A five minutes brainstorming is all it takes to write an excellent essay. Now in Ethics, I initially discuss the gist of the syllabus and the past questions. With that global frame work, I move through syllabus topics with special emphasis on areas critical for exams. Yet, it is ultimately the individual effort that matters. I makes my students practice through past papers and model papers and evaluate them personally.
