Zur, zum nach

In English, we have:

I go to bank.
I go to museum.
I go to Italy.

All three sentences have 'to'.

In German, we have:

Ich gehe zur Bank.
Ich gehe zum Museum.
Ich fahre nach Italien.

All three sentences have a different preposition. Places within the city have zur or zum. Zur for feminine nouns and zum for masculine and neutor nouns. Nach is for names of cities and countries. This rule has some exceptions too.

Better to explain in following way :- 1. Ich gehe zu der Bank ..{ zu + der(Bank feminine) = zur }. 2. Ich gehe zu dem Museum ....{zu + dem ( Museum Neutral ) = zum } . 3. Ich gehe zu dem Bahnhof ...... { zu + dem ( Bahnhof Masculine) = zum} .
