If one opts for Super intensive courses (4 hrs a day, 5 days a week), studies only German throughout, aided by listening to songs, watching movies, considering there is no gap of more than a week or two, one can easily reach the level of B2 IN ONE YEAR, which is more than fluent to have conversations pertaining to wide range of topics. However if one wants to be fluent in professional and Business German, one has to be of at least C1 level. read less

For an English course, knowledge of German is not a pre-requisite but you would require German level A1/A2 to carry out daily conversations with Germans. For German - oonly courses, one requires TestDaF or Goethe Zertifikat - C1. Your language competency may or may not influence your Visa Interview. Universities clearly indicate the level of German that one requires to be eligible. However, remember that knowledge of German is a plus point, whether or not the University mandates it. read less
