If we go for a literal translation, neither ‘plate’ nor ‘bowl’ are german words. In German, ‘Platte’ means a thin flat piece of metal which is used for serving purposes. Also, the translation of ‘bowl’ is “Schussel”, but that is not used for serving soup. What actually is used for serving the soup is teller, which is something similar to a plate in visual. So, the practical translation would be, “ein Teller Suppe” or “einen Teller Suppe”. read less
