Why are people so against flutes in a jazz band?

Professional Hindustani Singer , Flutist and Guitar teacher.

First of all anyone who is against of any instrument in jazz band don't understand the music. But If you mean big band, then you don’t see flutes very often (and parts aren’t written), mainly because they just get buried by the saxes, trumpets, and bones.

It depends upon your dedication and the time you spend for the riyaz. But then definitely it will take months time to learn, practice and become a professional. You can achieve this quick based on the practice.

Age is not an issue, if you have desire and there are people, who start to learn flute after retirement.
