Musical flutes produce sound through the flow of air. When a player blows air across the embouchure hole, it creates a stream of air that passes over the edge of the hole and creates a low-pressure area. This low-pressure region causes the air inside the flute to vibrate, producing sound. The vibration travels through the air column inside the flute, which is controlled by the player covering or uncovering the finger holes. By altering the length of the air column, different pitches and notes are produced. read less
