Carnatic music is associated with the southern part of the Indian subcontinent. Whereas Hindustani music or classical music is associated with North India and is deeply influenced by and Islamic music & Persian. Classical existed even before the Carnatic style.
Do proper research & find out a good teacher. Firstly, you can ask you, friends n family. If you didn't find it. Then read some blog over the internet. So, you'll get a good teacher. Either be it online or offline.
