It depends totally upon your goal, what kind of a teacher you get, how much you practice, and what you consider to mean having "learnt drums". You can start playing song within 3 months, you can start listening to and covering songs yourself withing a year or two, and you can start making your own beats...

It depends totally upon your goal, what kind of a teacher you get, how much you practice, and what you consider to mean having "learnt drums". You can start playing song within 3 months, you can start listening to and covering songs yourself withing a year or two, and you can start making your own beats and fills in an year or two as well. But to become a drummer who can make their own grooves and fills, play a 2 hour set on stage with a band, record drum covers, play drum solos etc, takes years and years of learning and practice. read less
