We need to have a broader perspective to understand this, more than just language knowledge. We need to take a step back and understand the technology from architect eyes. The answer to your question “Has MVC completely overtaken Web Forms” is NO. The reasons are: If there is some existing project in Web Forms, migration to MVC is not easy. If there a team who specialises in web forms, then learning MVC involves time(cost as well). So they can create a project in web Forms in less time, than learning or hiring and then starting development. This is the reason interviewers still asking you web forms. Their projects uses this technology. They can not convince the client to invest the cost to shift to MVC. Although, if there is new project starting and you have team with those skills or the company can invest in the resources, MVC is the way to go. Time/money are the greatest reasons why webforms is still being used. P.S. Recently, Microsoft launched .NET core, in which they have included web forms and did not scrapped it. Shows the significance. read less

Yes ,But both are two different technology that run in asp.net platform.WebForms is a better choice is when you are learning web programming.Since WebForms provides abstraction over HTTP it is easier to learn for somebody who is new to web development.
