I use stories, actions, songs, picture cards, movement-based activities and multisensory techniques to keep the sessions engaging and developmentally appropriate. For children aged 5–8, I progressively introduce CVC words, consonant blends, digraphs, trigraphs, long and short vowel sounds, word families, tricky or sight words, decoding and spelling patterns. I also work on reading fluency, pronunciation, sentence formation and comprehension as the child's decoding ability develops. My teaching methodology is based on a structured progression: Hear the sound → Recognise the sound → Produce the sound → Blend sounds → Read words → Spell words → Read sentences → Apply the skill independently. I conduct regular assessments to identify individual learning gaps and adapt my lessons accordingly. For children who struggle with particular sounds or blending, I provide additional repetition, phonemic-awareness activities and targeted practice rather than moving ahead without mastery. I also use multisensory Phonics techniques, including visual, auditory, verbal, kinesthetic and written activities. This helps children retain sounds more effectively and makes learning interactive rather than purely worksheet-based. Over these five years, my focus has been not only on teaching sounds but on developing confident early readers who can decode unfamiliar words, understand sound patterns and gradually become independent readers and spellers.
