Read newspaper and english books the more we read we come across various words and sentences in different ways and forms listening and using in communication will definitely improve your spoken part. Important is even that there should be someone who helps correcting as and when needed, never hesitate as no one is perfect but do notice how others speak. Everything is a step towards learning.

Punishment as such is not necessary and the question of caning does not arise at all. A teacher needs to be patient and mostly things can be dealt in a positive way. Seeing the present generation with so many pressures peer, social and career and to top it with punishments like can be detrimental for kids. Children may not be able to handle, as small kids they might go into a shell or be even more stubborn. The elder kids could resort to retaliation or even land up taking up harder steps. Situations can be made more respectable and understanding.
