Although it might not seem like it, any modern day scientist needs to have some programming background. Data scientists don't write any softwarethemselves. So, the expertise required is limited but to solve various problems of Data you a Data scientist needs to be able to code in some programming language. Preferably R or Python. The code doesn't have to be efficient or great. It just needs to work. So, someone can become a Data scientist by learning the basics of a programming language like Python along with some Data handling libraries and that should be enough. Of course, apart from just programming, a Data scientist also needs to understand Mathematical ideas behind various Data processing Algorithms and optimization techniques. ----- I offer a quick crash course on the basics of Python needed to kick-start your career in Data science.
