Both have its unique and forms. As per dancer opinion "A dancer can learn any form of dance, once he decided to face the stage". So Better to go with your interest. Bharatanatyam is easy and compared to kathak. So if you're beginner start with bharatnatyam.

Both has its own place and it is your wish to select which you wish to learn, if you are interested in expression abhinaya and foot work you can opt for bharatnatyam, if you are interested in chakars and foot work kathak is best option. By the wne of the day it's both has its own significance

I would say that kathak is little easier than bharathanatyam. Because, initially when you start learning these dance forms you will realise that the basics of kathaks are easier than the adavus of bharatnatyam
