There is a pulling force of chromosomes towards the opposite end of the cell for the transition of metaphase to anaphase..

In S-phase, like the DNA, the centrosome also duplicates itself. During mitosis, the duplicated centrosomes move to the cell ends while still serving as the negative end and again from there microtubules originate, this time towards the cell center to capture and position the chromosomes. read less
