British's main economic agenda in India was to gain maximum benefits of total India's trade beacuase India's foreign trade generated large export surplus. The export surplus did not result in any flow of gold or silver into India.

The heavy administrative costs also related to running of the colonial rule in India, in the form of wages and salaries of the administrative staff, and the expenses borne by Britishers in fighting wars were borne by revenues generated in India.
