Generally we have induction motors for fan.there can be two ways to produce the rotary motion in a motor.Either u move the stator part with the conductors on the stator or rotor with conductors on rotor.so in a table fan the blades are fixed and movement appears to be clockwise.

There is no definitive rule regarding the direction of rotation which is determined how the forces are acting on the electrical coils in the motor of the fan. There are two parts in a fan motor rotor and stator. The stator has magnetic poles which generate magnetic flux. This interacts with the coils...

There is no definitive rule regarding the direction of rotation which is determined how the forces are acting on the electrical coils in the motor of the fan. There are two parts in a fan motor rotor and stator. The stator has magnetic poles which generate magnetic flux. This interacts with the coils on the rotor and applies a couple causing the rotation of the rotor. In a table fan, the blades are fixed to the rotor and the movement appears to be clockwise. In a ceiling fan, the blades are fixed to the stator, hence the movement of blades appear to be anti-clockwise. read less

It may be because the blade of fans is bend in such a way that it pushes air downward and forward when it rotates anti clockwise and clockwise direction respectively.

So that their angular momentum be towards motor.
