Lesson 1: Multiplication Trick: Multiply Quickly Without Any Error

Depending on Specific and General Techniques, Multiplication in Vedic Mathematics are classified in the form of Sutras as below. Lets see the  Vedic Mathematics Multiplication techniques.

1. Nikhilam Sutra (Specific Technique).

2. Anurupyena Sutra (Specific Technique).

3. Urdhva Tiryak Sutra and Vinculum Process (General Technique).

4. Ekayunena Purvena (Specific Technique).

5. Antyaordaske’pi (Specific Technique).

1. Nikhilam Sutra: It's easy to multiply for the numbers which are near to power of 10. For example multiplication of 98 and 99 is very easy as it's closer to 100. Here 100 is nothing but 10 the power 2.Similarly 999 and 997 whihch is very close to 1000(=103).

Example: Multiply 98 and 99. 

Solution:

Here both the number 98 and 99 are most closed number as power of 10 i.e. 100.

So we'll consider the base number as 100.

Follow the below step to find the answer:

1. Find the difference from the base - 100-98 = 02 and 100-99 = 01.

2. Multiply the differences: 02 and 01. you will get 02.

3. Subtract either 02 from 99 or 01 from 98 : you will get 97.

4. Now the answer will be 9702.
