Assertion (A): Boron has a smaller first ionization enthalpy than beryllium. Reason (R): The penetration of a 2s electron to the nucleus is more than the 2p electron, hence, 2p electron is more shielded by the inner core of electrons that the 2s electrons. (a) Assertion and reason both are correct statements but reason is not correct explanation of assertion. (b) Assertion is correct statement but reason is wrong statement. (c) Assertion and reason both are correct statements and reason is correct explanation of assertion. (d) Assertion and reason both are wrong statement.

b) assertion is correct but the reason is wrong statement. boron is ready to lose its p orbit electron to achieve fully filled s orbits and empty p orbits. thats why it is having less ionization enthalpy than berlliyum

Ans will be (c) reason-in electonic configuration of boron electon we have one electron in 2p orbital which i much more shielded than 2s and removing electron from 2p is easier than 2s.hence IE for Boron will be less.
