Ionization due to radioactive emission occurs due to collision of the radioactive particles with atoms thus to knock off the outer electrons of the atoms and form ions. Alpha particles are much heavier (nearly 7000 times) than beta particles and hence have much higher kinetic energy. Further they are larger in size than the beta particles. Also +2 units of charge per alpha particle contributes to ionization by pulling the electrons off the atoms. These result in higher rates of collision of the alpha particles with the atoms than the beta particles and hence alpha rays have higher ionization power. read less

because alpha particles are slower then beta particles, which enables it to dissipate its energy more.

Tuition undertaken for science maths and all subjects upto Xth std

alpha particles are positively charged hence more ionisation than beta.
