Dear Kudo, Coordinate Geometry is nothing but naming a point based on his position from the axis. This branch of mathematics finds a large application in computer graphics. There is no other effective way in Computer Science (not that I can think of) to generate mathematical figures. It is used in astrophysics (say calculation of distance between two celestial bodies), geography, architecture (how would you accurately represent relative distance between and sizes of multiple objects unless you have a frame of reference). One of the Most basic and common example of Coordinate Geometry which we use in our daily routine life is "Google Maps". When we instruct google maps to tell us the path from one place to another, it basically: 1.Finds the shortest possible path (or paths). 2.Tells us the distance and time. 3.There are Lots and lots of coordinate geometry is used in finding the shortest path and the distance between them. Obviously, there are other concepts (OR) principles involved too. 4.Once we have the distance, an approximate time to travel is calculated based on the traffic. For calculating the distance we have the distance formula in coordinate geometry. Distance d= Square root of [(x2-x1)2 +(y 2-y1)2 ]. To find the angle between 2 lines, we can use theta= tan -1m, where m is the slope of the line with respect to the origin. read less

Coordinate geometry is used everywhere. The first question is if there exists a point in space how should I represent it's location? Then with respect to what should I get it's location? I think it is like making geometry more rigorous.
