no it is not a valid reaction it should be KOH instead of KO .It releases hydrogen with a poring sound

The reaction between potassium and water can be written as 2K + 2H2O -> 2KOH + H2. It is an exothermic reaction. Assuming the reaction takes place in an environment with oxygen, the released hydrogen gas reacts with the oxygen and ignites. The created potassium hydroxide solution is basic in nature.

No its not valid equation the write equation is given below:- Balanced equation: 2 K + 2 H2O = 2 KOH + H2 Reaction type: single replacement

Potassium reacts with water to produce potassium hydroxide (KOH) and hydrogen gas (H2) according to the equation: 2 K + 2 H2O --> 2 KOH + H2 Two moles of potassium react with 2 moles of water to form two moles of potassium hydroxide and 1 mole of hydrogen gas. The number of moles of hydrogen gas...

The number of moles of hydrogen gas produced is half the number of moles of water and potassium that react together. The molar mass of water is 18 g/mole. 9 g of water is half a mole of water. If the reaction is conducted with 9 g of water, half of mole of water reacts with half a mole of potassium to produce 1/4 mole of hydrogen. The number of moles of hydrogen gas (H2) produced is 0.25 moles read less

Like Sodium, Potassium is a REACTIVE Group A element. Both Sodium and Potassium though metals are soft and stored under OIL. It is so dangerous to handle that if the metal pieces get exposed to air, the moisture in air is enough to react rapidly causing high heat of reaction that actually IGNITES the metal surface due to the presence of flammable Hydrogen mixture with air. The reaction is 2K+2H2O --> 2KOH + H2 ( EXOTHERMIC). With this knowledge you can understand that we cannot handle Sodium and Potassium metals the way we do the normal metals and alloys ( mixture of metals) read less

No, balanced equation is >>2 K+ 2H2O= 2KOH+H2

No,it would be 2K + 2H2O = 2KOH + H2. The reaction is exothermic i.e. it releases heat and cause the potassium to burn withpurplish coloured flame. - Thank You

IT guy having very keen interest in technology, maths and science.

This is not a valid reaction. Potassium is highly soluble in water to form KOH, not KO. this reaction is i think is exothermic and solution i.e KOH you get is basic. Correct and valid reaction would be 2K +2 H2O = 2KOH + H2

This is not a valid reaction because Potassium is very highly reactive element and when it react with water then it form hydroxide with some sound. A Highly Reactive Metal always form Hydroxide with Water.

2K + 2H2O = 2KOH(potasium hydroxide) + H2 . Now this is a Valid reaction ....but its not Normal.....b'coz its highly exothermic(release heat).....so while performing...dnt forget to wear glasses n gloves...;)....
