empirical formula is the simplest ratio of atoms of the compound but molecular formula is exactly the number of atoms in one mole of the compound . e.g glucose has molecular formula C6H12O6 but its emperical formula will be C1H2O1. you can understand the difference in common terms as : You are cooking...

empirical formula is the simplest ratio of atoms of the compound but molecular formula is exactly the number of atoms in one mole of the compound . e.g glucose has molecular formula C6H12O6 but its emperical formula will be C1H2O1. you can understand the difference in common terms as : You are cooking a vegetable and your mom told you that put salt 4 spoon and spices 2 spoon. but you remember it as salt vs spice ratio is 2:1 in particular vegetable. so Sa4Sp2 is your molecular formula and Sa2Sp1 is your empirical formula. where Sa --> Salt , Sp --> Spice, C--> Carbon , H--> Hydrogen ,O--> Oxygen. read less

Molecular formula gives us the information that how many atoms of each element are in a compound, and empirical formula tell us the most reduced ratio of elements in a compound. If a compound's molecular formula cannot be reduced any more, then the empirical formula is the same as the molecular for...
