Section 5.1 – This section deals with Coal. In this section, you will learn about natural resource – coal. You will also learn about the different types of coal. In this section, you will learn about the history of coal and its existence as a form of fuel for many years. It was used in engines in the trains as a source of energy. You will also learn about the coal being processed to get some useful products such as coke, coal tar and coal gas. In this section, you will also learn about the characteristics and uses of these natural resources.
Section 5.2 – This section deals with Petroleum. In this section, you will learn about the natural resource – petroleum. You will learn that this petroleum is formed from the organisms in the sea. You will also understand the process of formation of petroleum from the dead organisms in the sea. In this section, you will learn about the extraction of petroleum from oceans and the further process to convert petroleum into other resources such as petrol, diesel and vaseline. You will also learn about the process of refining of petroleum.
NCERT Class 8 Science, Chapter 5 helps you to understand the concept of Coal and Petroleum. In this chapter, you will learn about the natural resources found in the environment. You will learn about inexhaustible and exhaustible natural resources. This chapter deals with different natural resources and its uses in the form of energy resources. Section 5.3 – This section deals with the concept of Natural Gas. In this section, you will learn about natural gas and its uses. Natural Gas is a very important fossil fuel because it is very easy to transport through pipes. Natural Gas is stored under high pressure as Compressed Natural Gas (CNG). You will learn about this gas being used for power generation and using it as a fuel for transport vehicles as it is less polluting. In this section, you will learn about the advantages of CNG that it can be used directly for burning in homes and factories.
Section 5.4 – This section deals with the concept of Some Natural resources are limited. In this section, you will learn that some natural resources are exhaustible. You will learn about the process of getting these fossil fuels by the conversion of dead organisms into fossil fuels. It takes millions of years for this process. In this section, you will learn about the concerns of air pollution by burning these fossil fuels. You will also learn about the tips to control air pollution and conserving these fossil fuels. You will learn about making the environment into a cleaner and better place by conserving these fossil fuels. You will also learn about global warming and the measures to control this global warming by reducing air pollution.
