Hi There, It goes this way. Though the Indian Railways were laid down by the British for their ease of transportation of goods or soldiers durning the pre-indepence time, it made the following impact on Indian economy.1) Tea plantation in Nilgiries and WestBengal (Darjeeling) have helped in increaing the local economy.2) Railways are presently helping in moving RAM materials from the source site to factories irrespective of Geographical location they are situated in.3) Apart from these it also helped in moving people from rural to Urban, there by increasing the scope for Rural to move to Urban locations to improve standards of living which furter boosted our economy.4) With new initiatives from Railways, new programmes related to tourism are beng encouraged which is increasing the commute to the Tourist places there by accelerating the economy in tourist places.. read less
