HALOGENS:- 17TH Groups elements are called Halogens because halogen means salt producing, these elements produce the salts when they combine with metals.
F, Cl, Br, I etc. belong to this group.
PROPERTIES HALOGENS:-
1) All Of these elements are non-metals.
2)Their valence electrons and valency of their atoms are 7 and 1respectively.
3) They form highly electro -ve ions(anion) by gaining an electron.ex; F+e- →F‾
4) They are very reactive non-metals.
5) They are bad conductors of heat and electricity.
6) At normal(room) temperature F&Cl are in the gaseous state, Br is in a liquid state, Iodine is in solid state
7) They combine among themselves to form interhalogen compounds.
8) They combine with the metals to form ionic compounds.
