Doing a single part on language can't help you to learn language! Teacher is necessary for any kind of new skill !

knowing any language has 3 types 1. you understand the language 2.you can speak that language 3. you can read as well as write it. so i guess listening can help with the first part.

It depends on what level you want to achieve and how hard you study. If you work hard enough and are exposed to native circumstance, you can speak simple Chines even with one month. practice and devotion accounts a lot in language learning.
