Scholar's mate is a checkmating technique used against beginners by those who want to get a quick point by finishing the game early.

 

It happens with the following moves:

 

01 e4 e4

02 Bc4 Nc6

03 Qh5 

In order to drive away from the Queen, a beginner may play

 

03 -- Nf6??

 

Usually, this move is a good opening move but not when the f7 Pawn is watched by the Queen and Bishop.

 

04 Qxf7 #
