I believe that it would, on an average, take 2-3 months for a kid to be ready for the advanced classes. Once he/she moves from beginner to advanced, he/she will be taught all the advanced ideas related to the game. This stage requires good dedication and practice on the part of the student. If all goes well, the student would, in another 4-5 months, be ready to take part in tournaments. The journey doesn't stop there. Once he/she gets a taste of tournament chess, the kid would be thrilled to keep improving further. From that point, the coach would play minimal role of guidance. read less

Time measure of Learning chess (compete for rules and movements of prices) is entirely based on the concentration levels of any individual(KID). It could be an hour or 30 hours, and also the quality of the teaching plays a vital role.

Chess is a very complex game. For learning necessary skills like knowing about basic rules and moving chess pieces notations takes one month. It's tough to compare to IAS and GM as currently, India has 64GMs and 4500 IAS. It would help if you started at a very young age to become Grandmaster.

How to hire a good teacher for my kid? what qualifications should he have

The first thing is a way of teaching. Then what they are teaching. Experience is also essential. But in my opinion, to judge a good chess coach by rating is not suitable if the student is less than an 1800 FIDE rating.

How much can I expect to pay as fees for 1-1 chess home tutor for my son?
In this age of high inflation, anything below Rs. 150/hr or Rs. 3000/month would be a great disrespect to any teacher.
