Shiv Darshan Yoga Vidyalaya (SDYV) was founded in 1992 by Swami Vajrapani Saraswati in Chennai as a unit of the Bihar School of Yoga.
It conducts classes of yogasanas for beginner and intermediate students, including young and old, men and ladies, as well as chronic patients. It showcases the therapeutic aspects of yoga for diseases such as asthma, diabetes, blood pressure (high/low), migraine, obesity, eyesight problems, stress relief, digestive disorders, etc.
SDYV also organizes yoga camps at corporate venues to teach stress management techniques, meditation, Yoga Nidra (a highly versatile and specialized technique with multifarious benefits). Workers, middle and upper level managers, software engineers, etc, benefit a lot from these courses.
Pranayama and chakra sadhana courses offer immense benefits both at physical and psychic levels.
Yoga Therapy and Research Institute, a wing of SDYV started in 1998 by Swami Gabhirananda with eminent doctors of Chennai, specializes in the treatment of diseases mentioned earlier without medication. The aim is to train the patients to improve their health, while still on medication, in such a way as to slowly come out of medication to reach normal health and sustain it. This institution recognized by central Govt. India as a scientific research institution.
