I had the privilege of being taught by Kiran Mam as my high school English teacher for over two years, and the experience was truly holistic and unforgettable. She was the kind of teacher who would go above and beyond to cultivate in us a genuine appreciation for literature, language, and writing. From our prose reading sessions in class to in-depth discussions on literary works, every lesson was highly interactive, engaging, and thought-provoking. Kiran Mam possessed an exceptional command of English literature and grammar, which significantly strengthened our writing skills. Equally impressive was her mastery of poetry. She explained every poem with remarkable clarity, carefully highlighting the underlying themes, symbolism, and literary devices while placing great emphasis on diction, vocabulary, and the significance of every important word and phrase. Her expressive teaching style brought each poem to life and helped us appreciate the beauty behind the poet’s choice of language. Seven Ages, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Daffodils, The Road Not Taken, and Ozymandias are just a few of the poems that remain etched in my memory because of the way she taught them. What truly set Kiran Mam apart was her unwavering belief that every student possessed unique potential. She never labeled anyone as average or mediocre; instead, she recognized individual strengths and constantly encouraged us to believe in ourselves. Her encouragement and confidence in her students inspired us to strive for excellence both inside and outside the classroom. Beyond academics, I also had the opportunity to work with her during our school plays, where her enthusiasm, creativity, and mentorship made the experience incredibly memorable. The lessons she taught us, both in English and in life, have stayed with me long after I left school.
