Ask a Question
A covalent bond is formed by the equal sharing of electrons from both the participating atoms (generally placed in the centre). The pair of electrons participating in this type of bonding is called shared pair or bonding pair electrons. The covalent bonds are termed molecular bonds. Sharing of bonding pair ensures the stability of atoms achieved in their outer shell, similar to the atoms of noble gases. The most important and maximum covalent bonding element in the whole periodic table is CARBON, which has the capacity for covalent bonding. Because a 'C' atom can form covalent bonds to as many as four other atoms because of its valency forming the "backbone" of a macromolecule.
