I will tell specific to India. It is a three year undergraduate degree with most of its courses in physics. You only take a few electives of other subjects. I hope i provided useful information. Thank you for your valuable time.

Yes one can study oneself but the problem is its difficult to be persistent in studying a subject alone. So the curriculum helps a lot to study Physics subject/any subject in more effective way. If you study Physics just by reading books, you will not be able to complete the book and also very difficult to solve all problems of books. Instead if you join some courses like some Physics degrer, nptel courses then it will become easy for you to complete the task and learn effectively. I believe curriculum helps one learning fast and more effective.

Thanks, have a nice day. Keep learning

Electronics and Electrical engineering has quite lot of courses matching with BSc and MSc Physics courses. Like all MSc physics involves studing digital and analog electronics which is heavily covered in this branch of engineering. Likewise mathematical Physics is about 20% of Physics courses nearly same in both Physics degrees and engineering degree. Also electronics involves condensed matter Physics  quantum mechanics which are a great part of Physics Degree. The wotking of antenna, Telescpes eyc is there in gnis engineering.  The only part not coveted is nuclear and particle physics and statisticsl physics which is like 3 4 couses of a Physics degree. Hence i think electronics or/ and electrical engineering cover a lot of physics.
