IT is a vast industry. As Kishan, said it majorly depends on the stream of IT you target or choose to make your career in. However there is one course that would be very useful is ITIL foundation as suggested by many folks here. It will open gates to many other streams. For more information, feel free to contact me directly.

Technical part comprises of following modules :
1. ABAP (coding)
2. BI (ETL tool - Reporting)
3. Basis (Maintenance/installing of systems ) and
4. Security (Authorizations).
Functional part consists of various different modules, major ones are listed below:
1. Sales.
2. Finance
3. Material Management
4. Quality Management
5. Banking
6. Planning
Generally companies recruit engineers for technical modules, as they have good problem solving and analytical skills.
And they recruit industry knowledge people/ MBAs/CAs for Functional parts as they understand the business and flow
better. Nonetheless you can build you skills in anything which suits your interests.
And finally, if you have expertise in both technical and functional skills you can be recruited at Business
consultant/Analyst, as you will be able to provide high level end-to-end solutions to client. «less

I can suggest you to do spend more time for the preparing exams. Most of the banks are looking for the candidates who scores more marks in the banks exams rather than job experiences. Especially for probationary officers / clerical recruitment. Banks are looking for experienced candidates only for senior level roles like Manager IT, Manger( Loans), Deputy General Manager etc. I can also say you that banks values only banking operation experience.
hence you do not waste your time in some call centres of banks ( most of them are third party ventures) by anticipating a quality experience in banking. you can read books related to banking for gaining knowledge. which can eventually help you to score marks in exams and interview.

Hello Jay! First of all he must get into a job in IT irrespective of package. More the gap then bad for the future. He must get updated in any software language C/C++/Java/.Net etc and gain a hands on experience for few months. You may try on Software Testing too which is in demand too. You may go an MBA from a good college. Good luck.

Hey Manu, Working in different industries can only be useful if that experience compliment each other and give advantage to your prime goal. Six years is not that long time period that things canâÂ?Â?t be turned, ItâÂ?Â?s great that you have taken break to decide on how to move forward on your career [which most people fail to do]. The most difficult thing to decide (to be honest no one can also help you on this) is to finalize on a single path where you want your career to go forward. Trying different field will not take you anywhere, in order to move forward you have to decide on a single way. You need to take decision based on your talent, skill and interest. Talent has a vast definition but in simple word anything which you can do better than anyone else without putting in extra effort is your talent. So do whatever it takes [travel, go for trekking or a secluded place where you can be all alone, consult experts in your field etc. etc.] but decide on your single path as early as possible and that will take you ahead in your life and career. «less
