It is a part of DSP digital signal processing. Numerous algorithms are applied to reduce the amount of data required to store the image file. The Raw format is the one without any compressions. While png, jpeg etc are the results of DIP used to reduce image size. Every time some information of the image is lost. As approximation methods and anti aliasing is applied some of the pixel information is left out each time. read less
