Masters is nothing but having an intensive research on one particular subject of your interest out of many streams in your specialisation. In terms of subjective knowledge and practical applications , IIT's and NIT's professors have more experience than any other professors in teaching institutes. In terms of career oppurtunities , private companies pay you based on type of educational institute you have studied in which IIT is on top priority. Hello thanks for the question. Now let's first talk about Btech in IIT's. 4 year course wherein you have clear all your course work and good project in the 4th year. Plus the amount of exposure you get from all the different clubs, compulsory internships and extra activities is unparalleled. So by the end of your 4 years you have been subjected to alot of exposure plus you have have the option of going for semester exchange programs in Universities all over the world. And coming to placements IIT btech grads are highly sought after in the industry be it tech or educational or businesses. Packages offered are also really high. Remember in btech better the cgpa better the package. Usually above 8.5 is good. Now mtech is more of a specialization in the respective branch. 1 year of course work plus 1 year of project work. Of course you can go for sem exchange program to complete your project at abroad Universities but the timing of it is such that you will miss the placement for that year, also depends if your project guide approves of your work done abroad or not(usually frowned upon). Plus you are not much involved in the community as an mtech as compared to btech. Naturally at placements mtech are hired based upon the specialization required by the company. Core branches like civil mech eletrical fetch good enough placements in the range to 8L - 14L bracket but CS branch fetches slightly higher packages. If you go for off beat departments like Ocean Engg, aerospace, environmental then placements are slightly hard to come by with max packages of about 8L in tech companies but you fair better in educational industry. Hope my answer was elaborate enough. read less

No. BTech is a graduation. MTech is a post-grad degree. You will have some specialisation with MTech. If possible, go for the pg degree.
