In short, it is because of the space-time structure of our universe. I am going to explain this from basic to advanced levels. It is one of the postulates of the special theory of relativity, proposed by Einstein. Light is an electromagnetic wave. Theoretically, we can describe an electromagnetic wave with Maxwell’s equations. These equations eventually yield a constant value for the speed of light. We know that the laws of physics have to be the same in every inertial frame( otherwise, we would have an absolute frame of reference). So if Maxwell's equations of electromagnetism are correct and if the laws of physics are the same in every inertial frame, the speed of light remains the same or constant in every inertial frame. Now, let me explain with the spacetime geometry. The geometry of the space-time of our universe can be described with a metric tensor (in simple terms, you can consider it to be a matrix). From that, we can calculate the spacetime interval between two points (described by space and time coordinates). This interval is constant when you go from one inertial frame to another (i.e., it is constant under the Lorentz transformation). So mathematically, if we equate the spacetime interval traveled by light for the two inertial frames, we get a constant value for the speed of light. read less

The speed of light is constant because the structure of space and time is such that it must be. It’s a fundamental property of the universe, confirmed by experiment.

Light travels at a constant speed in vacuum for all observers, regardless of their motion, because the laws of physics are the same in every inertial frame. To keep this consistency, space and time adjust , ensuring the speed of light remains unchanged.
