Overview

I have lived in China (Shanghai) for over 3 years & during this period; I had the opportunity to learn Mandarin directly from the native Chinese teachers.

I have certification from iMandarin (a foreign language training institute, with 20 campuses across 10 cities in China).

I have also done Mandarin language certification program from East China Normal University (ECNU)

Residing in Shanghai, I interacted with local people on daily basis, thus enhancing my language skills, understanding of the Chinese culture & society.

Currently, I am teaching Chinese Language along with interesting and important aspects of Chinese culture to students, working professionals, business men/women and homemakers.

AVANI SRIVASTAVA attended Basic Conversational Level-1

"I came to know Sonia through one of my relatives as their child was learning Mandarin from her. I was also interested in learning Mandarin and keen to have a teacher who could make me familiar with the language in my home space. I am based in Hong Kong and she made my work easy by taking classes on Skype. Her classes are very interesting, she gives her full attention to the student and makes sure that the language is well understood. Her methodology of teaching is quite simple and easy. She is very approachable & sweet. My classes were quite interesting and I loved the way she taught me. I have finished Basic Conversational 1 in Mandarin and after doing it, I am confident enough to understand and speak basic Mandarin. My special wishes to Sonia on doing such a great work for students like me who are keen to know the culture and language of China. "

Anushree attended Chinese Language

"My son has been learning Chinese from Sonia for the past year and the experience has been great. She is an extremely good and dedicated teacher. Despite the class being held over Skype, my son has never felt the need for a face to face lesson as her course content is so well structured. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to learn Mandarin. "

What is Mandarin? What is Chinese? What’s the difference?

" Mandarin" is the official language in Mainland China, Hongkong, Taiwan and one of the official languages in Singapore. When referring to Mandarin (Chinese language) most of people often says it as 'Chinese" however it does not mean "language"

Hi Kamali, Before telling how to learn "Chinese Language" (Mandarin); let me first introduce you to the fact that Spoken part of Mandarin is completely different from reading and writing part. As non-native speaker, you should begin learning Spoken Chinese Language first and then if you are interested or if your work demands it you can start learning reading and writing part. Spoken Chinese language is taught using English alphabets and this system is called "PinYin". Reading and writing part includes memorization of Chinese characters (han zi).
