Due to some personal reasons I took a carrer break and now want to restart it after 8 yrs.Could you please suggest me if it would be better to contine in the Mainframes or changing into a new technology will help.If new which one do you sugggest?

Depends whether you are still in touch with the technology or not. If you are good at programming, try Python or any other scripting tools, else try Excel with some reporting tools Like Power BI.
