Overview

I am a British Council certified IELTS trainer as well as a Business English trainer with over 18 years of experience in various roles.

I have trained professionals not only in India, but from Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the UK, the US, Singapore, Kuwait, Senegal, Switzerland, and Germany. My students, after having taken IELTS, are also working and studying in different parts of the world now. Though my sessions are now completely online due to the pandemic, I have been offering online training for years now, and hence, well aware of the challenges of online learning.

Whether face-to-face, or online, all my courses are personalised according to the requirements of the participants. Neither the lessons, nor the course materials are the same for all participants.
Please check out the intro video for details, as well as the testimonials from successful participants in this profile. Most of them had taken the exam earlier, even multiple times, and were finally able to achieve their desired scores because of the 2-month guidance and personal attention that they received.

Teaching Experience in detail in IELTS Coaching classes

As a British Council certified trainer, I coach both students as well as professionals for the Academic and General Training modules of IELTS. Due to the pandemic, all sessions are online now. Sessions are either one-on-one or a small group of 2-3 participants only, which enables me to provide individual attention, and is beneficial to the participants as well to derive optimal benefit from the coaching. All my assessment and feedback w.r.t speaking and writing sections are on an individual basis. The training is customised to the requirements of each individual. Since IELTS is a proficiency test, I believe it is vital to assist students on a daily basis in order to enhance their listening, reading, speaking and writing abilities in multiple ways and my training inputs strive to do so. I believe that the guidance for an exam is incomplete without inputs till the very end, so I aid all my students for up to 3 weeks even after the training. So, overall, it's a 2-month training programme. My students have been successful in achieving their target scores of Band 7 and above and have eventually migrated to different countries as per their aspirations.

"While one can learn the tricks to get through the IELTS, there are no shortcuts to improving one's language. Priya assesses where the individual stands and guides them in improving and working on their weak areas. Priya's approach is to start from the basics of the language and progress from there organically. As the course advances, one finds the areas they lack on, and upon working on those areas, the hold of the language becomes stronger. As a result, one isn't just learning for the IELTS exam but is improving their language, which will be useful throughout their lifetime. Priya is flexible and accommodating with the session timings. I scored a CLB 10, the highest recognised by IRCC (Canada), which wouldn't have been possible without her guidance. "

"Miss Priya was patient and thorough with the classes. I had limited time for my exam , but she made sure to cover all the necessary points. She gives personal attention and feedback for every essay which is very very useful. "

"I scored my desired band in Writing(7) in General training, thanks to Priya Ma'am. I was getting 6.5 bands in writing multiple times before this. She provided a lot of resources to improve my grammar. The feedback about my writing helped me to focus on where to improve. She was cooperative with the session time slots as well. Altogether, it was a great experience, and I would certainly recommend her to anyone looking for an IELTS tutor. "

Hi Shailja! The preparation time depends on your current proficiency level and the amount of time you can regularly devote to practice. To have an estimate, take a complete IELTS mock test and get an assessment done with an IELTS trainer, especially for the speaking and writing sections. I am assuming 7.5 is your overall score requirement. Among all the sections, getting a score of 7 or above for writing is the trickiest where most test takers need help and/or time to improve. Being aware of the assessment parameters and having a good control of grammar and vocabulary is key to achieving a high score.

Hi Kishore, The writing section of the IELTS exam is the trickiest. Listening and Reading have 40 questions with 40 marks and specific question types. So if you are familiar with the types of questions and practice well, they aren't difficult. Speaking and Writing sections do not have marks. Each of the them have 4 assessment criteria which examiners evaluate on and band scores are given for each of the 4 and then averaged out to a final band score for the section. There are 2 writing tasks that need to be completed in the Writing section. So it's important that both tasks fulfill the assessment parameters. The examiners are looking to see if you address all parts of the question, write the adequate number of words for each task, if your writing is coherent and your arguments logically sequenced with a good range of vocabulary and grammatical accuracy. So, in order to score well, one needs to be aware of how writing is assessed and practice accordingly. Consistent effort is required to improve vocabulary and eliminate grammatical errors and write complex sentences for a band score of 7 and above.

Do not linger too much in a section as there is no negative marking for wrong answers. Finally, reading skills improve if you read up on a variety of topics outside of your IELTS practice lessons. It aids in your writing section as well.
