My suggestion is don't get into Machine Learning if you have experience in Unix. Just because everyone started learning ML doesn't mean you should learn it. My advice to you is deep dive into UNIX. Learn C Programming along with UNIX. You have tons of opportunities in this if you become an expert in that field.
