IELTS does not help you to get a seat in top colleges. It is a requirement for getting an entry in the unversities of some coutries. Different colleges looking for different scores averaging 6 to 6.5. Some unversities accept as low as 5.5. So it is not that IELTS score of 8.5 or 9 will help you get admission in top colleges, they have their own criteria other than an essential IELTS score.
