In Adobe Photoshop, once layers are merged, you cannot unmerge them directly. However, there are a few methods you can use to effectively "unmerge" or work with the content: 1. Use the History Panel: If you haven’t closed the document yet, you can use the History panel to revert to a point before the layers were merged. This is the easiest way to undo a merge if it was done recently. Simply go back to the step before the merge and continue working. 2. Duplicate the Merged Layer: If you've already merged the layers but need to edit parts of it separately, you can try duplicating the merged layer, then using tools like the Clone Stamp or Healing Brush to replicate or adjust sections. This isn't an exact unmerge but can help separate or edit portions of the image. 3. Recreate the Layers: If you have access to the original assets or images, you can manually recreate the layers by separating the content again using selection tools or masks. If the original layers were created from separate files, you may need to re-import them. 4. Use Layer Masks: In the future, using layer masks instead of merging layers can allow you to blend and manipulate parts of an image non-destructively. If you've merged but wish to isolate parts of the image, you could use a mask to hide or reveal portions of the merged layer. Ultimately, it’s best to avoid merging layers if you anticipate needing to edit them separately later. If the merge is accidental, the History panel offers the quickest recovery. read less

In Adobe Photoshop, you cannot directly unmerge layers after merging. However, you can use **Undo (Ctrl+Z)** immediately after merging. To avoid this issue, duplicate layers before merging or save the project with layers intact as a PSD file for future edits.
