There are so very many choices that it’s hard to narrow a selection down to a few “best” works.
One place to start, however, is with the songs (or Mélodies) of Gounod, which I find tremendously beautiful. Many of the Lieder of Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven are also wonderful examples of vocal music (for piano and voice), and are very easy to listen to.
